Major Investments
In order to thoroughly carry out our environmental protection policies, TCC had invested 1.6 billion and 90 million NT to install pollution-controlled euipment till 1997.In 1998,some NT $32 million was spent to install SNCR(selective non-catalytic reduction)equipment on kiln in order to reduce NOx emission. This has made Taiwan cement a leader among all players in this industry.
In addition,the newly constructed plant in 2001 at HOPINGIN in HUALIEN COUNTY has cost some 1.5 billion NT to install the environmental facilities,and become an indicated one in this field.
We have so far satisfactorily lived up to the government standards in pollution control. In turn, we have significantly spruced up our corporate image and competitive edges. These years, we do spent 30 milliont NT$ yearly for the maintenance of environment protection equipment, and consequently receive an excellent result.
Through intensive efforts, we have planted in the mine quarry areas and have thus brought up satisfactory results. While planting and greening in the quarry areas will help balance ecology and benefit environmental protection, we have invested around NT$120 million sum to plant greens in Kaohsiung,Tsutung,Hualien and Hoping Quarries which have brought up encouraging results already. Further in the future, we will continue to initiate the the some efforts to Suao and Hoping Quarries in greening and planting programs.
To further safeguard landscaping and soil conservancy, we have invested as much as NT$3,750 million to build 3 sets of Shaft Drilling of Hoping Quarry. Since the Shaft Drilling is completely subterranean, automatic and environmentally protected, it reduces impacts significantly impact upon the environment.
